20. I understand that the door to the ONLY apartment where the fire was had been left open. But how does that excuse the ENTIRE BUILDING filling up with smoke? If the interior stairwells were the ONLY way to evacuate, why was there not ventilation in those stairwells that would allow the smoke to be taken OUT? Even if multiple doors were left open (which I've been hearing there were), there should STILL be ventilation FROM the stairwells. It almost makes me wonder if people would have been safer to STAY in their apartments with the doors closed and a towel under the door to block smoke. The fire was contained. Whatever comes from this tragedy, I hope that in the end it makes other high-rise apartment buildings safer.
