The effort to get the sentence reduced is now getting some results. ABC News’ Rhiannon Ally has the details.

  1. A long time ago, maybe 30 years ago. There was a terrible DUI accident in my hometown. A young lady , fresh out of high school , had a few drinks on New Years. She got on the interstate going wrong way , hit a car head-on . Killed a whole family. Was sentenced to life. It was sad, but she accepted the sentence.

  2. Just giving DEF just like he gave those other four people he probably an illegal immigrant from Cuba 🇨🇺

  3. Wake up all dead people come back to life then the Judge will give him 99.99 years in prison. Bullshit Truck killer.

  4. This is a disgrace. There is constitutional separation of powers, and the judge should NEVER be tied by the legislative branch in cases like this. This was a terrible accident, but it does not warrant a life sentence.

  5. As a truck driver that started when I was 21, and have been in over the road since 2004 this saddens me. I have took that exact route a million times in my life and I have smoked my brakes coming into Denver. As far as a professional driver I have lived by a ethic of code, if you can't stop your truck you go off the cliff and save the public. You do not serve for a animal crossing a road you hit it center with your truck so you save the public. As a professional driver when it is worse case for a professional driver that has no brakes you always drive off to save the public. Hence why the 7 keys to the smith system which he did not apply. There are air brake warnings in every semi, there are extra procedures that fall into play when your brakes fail and checking your mirrors looking for smoke is always high priority. Unfortunately the system failed this driver and as a professional driver that has over three million miles under my belt, if that was my situation the news would have reported one truck driver dead due to driving of mountain. You are responsible for your equipment. You are federal regulated and state regulated for every state you are driving through. What really bothers me about this whole thing is nothing regarding his log book. Why do you think his sentence is so high. Check out log book rules and volitions.

  6. Clemency Their was No criminal intent of him doing that Just a young truck driver with no more than 3 year experience in a unfamiliar place with a runaway truck with brake failure at a location that's known to happen because your coming down a mountain with turns

  7. I am a 16 year driver. I hear a lot of people crying for this dude to be pardoned by the Governor. Sorry but that ain't happening. I gotta tell you it pisses me off how ignorant they are. This video tells the truth. "He" failed his brakes long before this happened coming off Berthoud Pass. A road he had no business on. He failed to take two runaway ramps. And rather than take his own life, he took the coward way out and killed 4 people. They burned to death by the way. He is exactly where he belongs for the next 20 years. This is what happens you hand out a CDL to anyone. I see them out here everywhere, every single day. Your brakes just don't fail if you are doing what you've been trained to do. Obviously he wasn't. His sentence will be reduced. I agree it was excessive. As for a full pardon, not a chance in hell…

  8. I’ve been driving tractor trailers for 4 years. Nearing the end of my 5 week training my trainer and I were on our way home from Birmingham Alabama. My trainer instructed me 60 miles in the wrong direction from home just so I could go down mountealge between Chattanooga and Nashville. Very thankful and useful to have experienced driver explaining proper way to go down a steep grade. Can’t be learned from textbooks.

  9. Witnesses saw him driving recklessly long before the crash. And he had NO business running 85mph. As a trucker that's just plain stupid. Brakes didn't fail because of a malfunction. The brakes overheated due to him running WAY too fast for the load and the truck's capabilities. Inexperience, disregard for safety, thinking he's a super trucker and being stupid. Maybe not 110 years worth of stupid but he was not being professional or responsible. I feel bad for the family but he is responsible and he has to pay his debt to society.

  10. No job is worth risking others safety. If you aren't prepared for break failure on a truck as a truck driver, don't get behind the wheel regardless of what the boss says. The value of life far outways a pay check. Imagine that your family where the 4 in that pick-up. Then you find out the driver was inexperienced and could have prevented the collision just by being prepared for it before it happened.

  11. Let's be clear about this. DUI drivers that kill people get less time the lady that ran a school bus stop sign in Indiana that killed three kids got less time.

This was an accident a very horrible accident. But the key word is accident. This dude got 110 years in prison something a mass murderer would get.

Let's be very clear about this.
    This isn't Justice at all.

  12. Jesus Christ saves from sin.
    Romans 3: 23
    For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
    Hebrews 9: 27
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
    Isaiah 64: 6
But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
    Revelation 21: 8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
    Romans 5: 8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
    John 3: 16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
    John 14: 6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
    Romans 10: 9-10.
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
    Jesus said John 5: 24
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
    1John 5: 10-13
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
    Ephesians 2: 8-9
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.
    Romans 8: 1
There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
    1 Corinthians 15: 3-4
    For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
    2 Corinthians 5: 21
For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him..
    ;………………………………..

  13. I am sure he did not mean to kill four people, when a person means the kill somebody they walk up and shoot them but they only get what 10-20 years 110 years for something he did not mean to do that's outrageous!!!!

  14. but Wanda Barzee, the woman who helped hold Elizabeth Smart captive just got out of prison 😭 make it make sense

  15. People have had 20 year and less sentences for Murder. This was unacceptable and avoidable but also an accident. I feel 8-10 years is more than enough, and we should all take a moment to imagine ourselves in his shoes, and the emotional pain he has to live with for the rest of his life.

  16. Judge: Sorry kid my hands are tied so life it is. If it was any other day it would be different but not today.

  17. How is it that some drunk drivers can get away with 50/40/sometimes only 30 years in prison after causing a deadly crash, but when a truck driver causes a deadly crash ON ACCIDENT because of faulty brakes, he gets over a 100 years? How is that justice? This is insane.

  18. This is just another example of regular people getting screwed by the system.
He was sober, his brakes failed, and he was a new driver. In what universe is a punishment even warranted.

Funny how the rich can bankrupt the entire world and receive no punishment while this guy get's 110 years for something completely out of his control

  19. Fu*k him he went to trial and lost. He only wanted to cop out to a driving violation at first. What about all of the black kids doing life sentences on drug violations (SMH).

  20. You guys are delusional, he was offered a 10 year plea deal and he didn’t take it. What makes me sick is that he assumed he was going to get a not guilty verdict. He didn’t take the deal and now he’s gotta suffer the consequences.

  21. Excellent! People working together..heard about this case… absurdity! But what's more it is a working man's life! Bravo to the people working to highlight this case…I would willingly donate toward getting this guy a top legal team!! Ireland!
