3. I am a die hard fan of the original. Spielberg’s love of this movie shows. I was so blown away by that love and sobbed thru the movie. So beautiful and he and all the cast should be proud of it. I know I am.

HE CHOSED THE UGLIEST WOMAN TO PLAY MARIA, ANITA, BERNARDO, AND THE REST OF THE CHARACTERS. THEIR WARDROBE IS A TOTAL DISASTER, THE SINGING IS HORRIBLE, THE ACTING IN HORRIBLE, THE CHOREOGRAPHY IS TOTAL DISASTER. IN COMPARING THE CLASSIC WSS WITH THIS POOR REMAKE, WE, WHO GREW UP WATCHING THE ORIGINAL CLASSIC WSS, WANT TO VOMIT. SPIELBERG A PRODUCER OF MANY OSCAR WINNING DIRECTOR PRODUCER , HAS DESTROYED A GREAT CLASSIC WSS INTO A TOTAL FAILURE. THOSE WHO NEVER HAVE SEING THE ORIGINAL WSS, I SUGGEST GOING TO THE LIBRARY AND RENT THE ORIGINAL WSS, BEFORE GOING TO THE THEATER TO WATCH THE DISASTER SPIELBERG MADE OF THE CLASSIC WEST SIDE STORY. AFTER WATCHING THE ORIGINAL, YOU WILL NOT WANT TO SEE THAT GARBAGE REMAKE SPIELBERG MADE OF THE 10 OSCAR WINNING WEST STORY. PUERTORICANS ARE PORTRAYED WRONGLY. RITA MORENO IS A REAL PUERTO RICAN, AND NOT BLACK. MR SPIELBERG SHOULD GO VISIT THE PARADISE ISLAND PUERTO RICO ACTUALLY IS, BEFORE HE TALKS ABOUT PUERTORICANS IN PUERTO RICO. SPIELBERG IS AN ILITARED, RACIST JEWISH MAN. PUERTO RICO HAS THE SAME VARIETY OF RACES FROM EUROPEANS AND SPANIELS AS USA HAS. I'M ITALIAN PUERTORICAN DESCENT, MY SISTER MARRIED JEWISH MEN, AND I'M OFFENDED BY THE WORDS SPIELBERG USED TO DESCRIBE PUERTORICANS. 44. The remake surpassed the original. Spielberg has done it.

45. They richly deserve the failure they have achieved. More woke nonsense. In this case, you pay your cash but still don't understand the flick BECAUSE there are no subtitles for the Spanish language.

46. The first one, 1961. Everyone played the cast album until lyrics were memorized. THIS ONE? Well, it was mesmerizing and far exceeded expectation; probably the best movie musical ever filmed. Spielberg is a genius at understanding motivating actors and dancers and apparently so instructed Peck; oh, light, editing and painting beautiful heartfelt emotional pictures.The beautiful segues from dancing/singing into dialogue–what brilliance. Love the Shakespeare dialogue nods and inclusion of snippets from the "Somewhere ballet " from the stage version. So many small things adding layers of emotional color and realism, i.e., Maria's drapes blowing in a wind of trouble. I want more Spielberg movie musicals!
