I suspect that just as Iraq’s trillions of dollars of oil reserves was the motivation why the trillionaire families had the US invade Iraq (until they later sold the Iraqi oil contracts to China), the trillions of dollars in mineral reserves of Afghanistan were the reason why the trillionaire families caused the US to remain in Afghanistan for decades: after all, none of their kids ever died or was crippled fighting in the US army in Afghanistan.

    Unless taxes on the trillionaires are changed, so they actually pay taxes, the US government has limited funds and must spend them only where they will yield a benefit: Afghanistan was never one of those places after Al qaeda was defeated.
