This is a common and known problem with Honda/Acura Integras with electronic rear latches. I believe the effected years are 98-2001. These are only on the 3 door versions so if you have a 4 door Integra this information won’t be helpful to you.
The most common cause is a faulty latch actuator, but it could also be the switch or relay. I cover how to make that determination in this video.
There is also an extended version of this video where I take apart the actuator assembly to try and repair it if you’re interested here: https://www.ericthecarguy.com/premium-content-web/13-premium-content-videos/1709-how-to-diagnose-fix-an-integra-rear-hatch-that-won-t-open-extended-version
Here is the part # for the actuator assembly: 74840-ST7-A01

Hi Eric, on my car it looks like the switch, relay, or fuse is bad (no power to the actuator wiring when I push the switch). How do I fix that?
So what if it's just whining? Same part I need to install?
What if my switch doesn't work? How i can fix that? 2000 integra here.
How do I go about changing the actual switch? I don’t hear any noise when I pull the lever and it gets stuck as well
So my switch doesn't seem to make a noise and there is no voltage at the connector. Am I to believe I just need a find a new switch or could there be a fuse or something else I should troubleshoot?
Wow!!……………

I am searching high and low for a part number for the switch. I have no voltage going to my trunk actuator(that I recently changed for a new one). Any help would be appreciated!
🙌ðŸÂ¾🙌ðŸÂ¾🙌ðŸÂ¾
what do I do when the switch doesn't make the noise?? how do I fix that?
I just replaced mine but the rear trunk still opens with tbe car locked
Is this the same for a Type R?
does this work on 06 RSX
This video was exactly what I needed. I had the exact same problem and was able to fix it easily with your help.
Thanks for this great video. I finally have the time to do all the things that I’ve been wanting to fix.
hw do you change the switch itself? part #?
sometimes mine make a noise and reads 12v at actualtor showing it is bad other times it makes no noise – is ther ea relay and how do you ccess the lever itself
This was supposedly a reason why my factory alarm would go off randomly, according to the dealership. Thanks for the video.
I didn't hear the click. Where is the relay?
Hi Eric, I have a 2000 Acura Integra GS with the driver side, passenger side, AND hatch not working. No sounds or clicks but they all work manually with the key. I bought it used and it has never worked. Do you have a video on how to diagnose that? Thanks!
What if you broke the key into the slot ??
Hey eric I doubt you'll see this but I'm looking for those cargo clips. Was this a standard option? If so was it only in the gsr or ls? I cant find them anywhere
you can tell hes done this a million times by the look on his face while explaining it hahahaha
How do I pop the hatch without battery? I'm trying to source a 98+ rear bumper but obviously at the junkyard there's no battery and I needed to pop the hatch to get to the bumper! Any help pls!!
my crx has this problem but it unlocks. the hatch struts have gone bad and im wondering if the weight of the door makes it so it just relatches after I let go of the trunk lever
This guide also works on the Honda insight ZE1
Well, I ordered the part from Parts Geek. 68 bucks, not bad, the part came yesterday, installed it today…FIXED! Works perfectly every time. Took longer to clear the stuff out of the back! Thanks so much for the video. Probably would have "lived" with it. You Da Man!…
GREAT VIDEO. super straight forward haven’t found as good a video as this. Now I can fix my trunk!
Allllso maybe you’ll kno how to do this or not but I need help.
Please tell me how to fix the door handle so that there’s not much resistance. My problem isn’t that the door sticks, it’s that the door handle has a lot of resistance when I lift it. So I broke it but my passenger side is super easy to lift with no resistance. So I’m wondering what the difference is and I don’t know if a new door handle will fix it because it may still have that resistance, so I’ll just break the new one too. I wonder if it’s the opening mechanism on the very inside of the door where you have to reach into the metal. Insight on how to make this more smooth!!?! Maybe as easy as lubricating it, or maybe realigning? Insight, pleease!!
I can't WAIT to fix mine! Putting groceries on the ground is getting old. Thanks Eric!
01 integra gsr here. the issue i'm having is that when I hit the acuator switch I hear a WWwrrrrrrrrr…. noise when I hold the switch down and nothing happens. hatch opens fine with the key though. Should I replace the actuator or is that unrelated to my issue?
