How contact lenses blew a 2005 murder case wide open and led to a husband serving prison time

One evening in April 2005, Raven Abaroa said he was out playing soccer when he returned to his family’s North Carolina home to discover a horrifying scene.

He told police he found his wife, 25-year-old Janet Abaroa, stabbed to death in an upstairs office. Nothing else in the house was disturbed, according to authorities, and the couple’s 6-month-old son, Kaiden, was left unharmed in another room.

“She’s been shot or something. There’s blood everywhere,” Raven Abaroa told a 911 dispatcher at the time.

Who killed Janet Abaroa was a mystery that captivated the Durham, North Carolina, suburbs, and the case remained unsolved for years.

  1. I'm thankful for Janets family. They have been her voice during this investigation and that says a lot. It tells me that she was loved and missed deeply due to this. They r ALL fighters and they won't give up until justice is served! 👏💛

  2. I’m 50/50 with this case… there are not enough evidence to plea him guiltily… he LOOKS guilty, there are lots of agresive people but that does not mean they are killers…. you really sent someone to jail because the woman had the contact lenses? I go to bed with my contacts on alllllll the time. I want to know who finger print was that one and the shoe print!!

  3. Vanessa’s father is a cop and she did her own investigating on him found out what happen to his wife and STILL married him.

  4. If my boyfriend had been married before, and was starting to talk about his exwife.. about how mad he was after her passing, and then saying things like "I would never hurt YOU!" I would be fearfull of my life like hell…

  5. The amount of victim blaming in this comment thread it's disgusting!! Stop blaming the second wife for falling for a highly manipulative sociopath!! Those sociopath are very good at manipulation. Blame the perpetrator instead!

  6. YouTube you should be ashamed of yourself and ABC only put in for parts first it sucks that we have to watch it in parts but I accept that but did not put the full episode and leave us hanging for no reason not cool if you’re going to put an episode up at least put the whole episode up

  7. nobody notice that raven said to the family that she committed suicide and then after there wedding he told vanessa that somebody killed his wife and then nobody notice that wtf

  8. Poor Vanessa she seems to be a decent person who was minding her own business when that predator targeted her at her child's school She didn't deserve to be played by that despicable bastard It's bad enough that he broke her heart but to then realise she was potentially his next murder victim is a horrific double whammy What a truly evil bastard 😤

  9. Forgot I told myself not to follow abc NEWS because the story is never carried to its conclusion as YouTube episodes are missing 🤦🏻‍♀️. Please do correct me if I am wrong? I do enjoy abc's documentaries, but I don't enjoy being left hanging after I have invested time I can never get back, watching the initial episodes.
