18. Before anyone starts ripping on the Captain understand that the vessel lost power and steering. If you were in a car crash after your brakes and steering failed would you think that you were to blame? This has been happening more and more often since “Drive by wire” was introduced, reverse gear acts as the brakes on a boat, and boat engines and transmissions are now computer controlled. When the computer crashes the boat often does as well. The Captain no longer has control and it’s the most helpless feeling one could imagine. I drive such boats and I do so on pins and needles, expecting to lose power/ control at any time. This didn’t happen nearly as often when engines and transmissions were mechanically controlled, as mechanical controls can be inspected for wear and be repaired/replaced before they quit working . Computers cannot.

30. Sounds like the Captain knew the boat was taking on water & moved to more shallow water to avoid a major disaster & in the process ran aground. He possibly saved lives by doing so.
