Tshaka adds the Bose QuietComfort earbuds as a “reference” pair since they are generally at the top of people’s lists of noise cancelling earbuds and for the holidays you may see them at a discount, given the fact that they’re going on a year old now. In this roundup, Tshaka does a live microphone test of EACH PAIR of earbuds so you can hear for yourself exactly what taking audio and video calls, and logging into zoom and webex meetings will sound like.

Some info he left out of the video review, that you may want to know:
In terms of codecs, with Bose you get Bluetooth 5.1 with SBC and AAC. With the Sony WF-1000XM4, Jabra and OnePlus you get BT 5.2 with SBC and AAC but Sony adds LDAC and Oneplus adds LHDC, an LDAC competitor which is supported by fewer phones but allows for maximum bitrates of 900kilobits per second and a max sample rate of 96 kilohertz. That’s around three times more throughput than SBA and AAC.
The exact microphone technology used by each is:
Sony WF-1000XM4: beamforming microphones with bone conduction sensors
Jabra Elite 7 Pro: Multisensor voice: four microphones and algorithms. Voice pickup units are bone conduction sensors, one in each bud. Algorithms determine when environment is noisiest and then activate the VPUs.
Bose: mics are only in the right earbud
Beats Fit Pro: beamforming 5 mics and voice accelerometers which pick up vibrations then isolate your voice from background noise using algorithms, along with those accelerometers.

  1. Nice comparison! To me, connectivity is key. I just hate the hassle changing from one device to another. It does not have to be multi device support but at least a quick switch option. So if OnePlus is really bringing that to the Pros I may get one. Right now I am using Huawei Freebuds Pros but they don't feel that comfortable and even the Nothing Ear(1) sounds better – which by the way are a honorable mention. I'm talking about around or below $150, so for me Bose and Sony are out of the game and I don't like their shape either.

  2. I use the Sony buds for work
Noise cancelling is excellent, had a coworker talking to me and could hear nothing, which was awesome, office can be loud sometimes
No complaints about the mic, we use Teams and WebEx for calls and with the app's background sound removal have had no complaints
These are the first buds I've had to go down to the small tips, always use medium ones, but I'm getting a better fit and comfort with the small ones

  3. I kinda wish you include Galaxy Buds 2 since I'm currently interested with those but this is still great video. Nice work Mr Armstrong 👌🏼

  4. I also have very shallow ear canals and I have the xm4s, I bought silicon tips and cut down the valve to half the size and now they fit so well

  5. Sony's don't support "simultaneous multipoint" (like the Jabra elite 75t for example) but they do support pairing with multiple devices without having to go back into pairing mode to switch by way of the fast pair function.
