The LG G5 isn’t a perfect smartphone (what is, right?), but that’s not to say the LG G5 isn’t one of the best android smartphones of 2016. And while we’ve got a number of questions about the long-term prospects of the LG G5 with a modular “butt” — you can remove the battery and swap in a module for additional functionality — there’s still a good bit of fun to be had. Let’s explore it all here, in our LG G5 review.

  1. hello can ask about my lg g5 i bought few days ago as 2ng hand..i cannot update to nougat still runing on marshmalow, evrytime i check update it says that ur using latest OS. lg h831 canada version. pls answer.thankyou

  2. 5:135:28 Which makes you wonder about this: WHERE IS THE PHYSICAL KEYBOARD IN LUCKY GOLDSTAR'S FRIENDS LINEUP!?!? That would have been a fantastic no-brainer that they desperately need, yet they didn't make it for some unknown reason. If they did that, this phone would've been a great phone, especially for those who like a physical keyboard. Ahh well, it's still a solid smartphone.

  3. I don't understand all the hate the g5 is getting. It's a really good phone. I wish the screen had a little more pop to it but that's about it.

  4. Thanks for the great review! I want to know about the video data rate. Is it too compressed for editing (all of these cells are)? Are we using 10 bit HEVC yet to save storage space and provide better quality? I am wondering if this phone could do video decently enough to be used as back up.

  5. I would go for the V10 over the G5– better value. The V10 is comparable with no need to shell out more on audio or camera modules

  6. Great review from Phil as usual. This phone is great but it just feels so rushed. Lg rushed this to market to respond to the S7 and now they've got a phone with a lot of quality control issues. I think in a few months though newer batches won't have any of these build issues. If they keep at this with the G6 then I think it will be great. G5 is definitely a step in the right direction.

  7. "It's plenty bright". I keep hearing a bunch of people say the screen is bright, or even "too bright".

But when I hold it up against an iPhone 6+ and a 6p, the screen on the G5 is NOTICEABLY dimmer. To the point where it's hard to even read the screen sometimes. The whites do not look white enough. And that's at 100% brightness with auto mode turned off.

I thought maybe my unit was defective, but the video clips of the screen on your unit look just as dim. Like the backlight is just not at full power. Is that just a limitation of the hardware? Software???

And I'm also curious about that hifi friend attachment/module. Seems like the extra length on that will make it pretty much unusable with all phone cases specifically tailored to this phone's dimensions.

  8. Really like the volume buttons on the back of the phone, it's one of my favorite things about using the G4. Little disappointed to not see it on the G5.

  9. Great review. iPhone user of 5 years here. The G5 made Me switch to the dark side, but the build quality is horrible. The paint/primer chipping and denting is a BIG issue. I had a life proof case on My G5 for two days. Dented the edges of the phone badly. I made a twitter account(@FernandoM1237) so people could see what I'm talking about, see the images here > http://twitter.com/fernandom1237

  10. Nice review. But I really wish that reviewers atleast make an effort to change the stock wallpaper to something more eye pleasing that would give audience a better idea of how good the display actually is. So many times i have seen display has been called mediocre just because there is a two tone wallpaper on the phone but in reality its totally a different story.

  11. I picked up a silver one and am very, very surprised at how much I like it. I'm even using the stock launcher (no app drawer) and it's great. Instead of an app drawer, I have a few folders. Same concept at the end of the day. The wide angle secondary camera is awesome and battery life has actually been very good. And the fit and finish, and overall build quality is almost perfect. Better than a lot of others that I've seen. My new daily driver

  12. This didn't seem like a review video. It seemed more like a "here's all the features of the LG G5"-type video instead of a "yes, this phone has all these things. Let's see how well they work and why you'd want to buy them (or not)" video. There was also no comparisons with this year's other flagship phones nor was there any mention on how well the modules worked, how well the cameras took pictures, or how long the battery lasts doing various things.

  13. what is scary about this is will LG stay and build on this modular design type. That's the only way this phone will be a win for consumers. LG is gonna have to build some tough skin and perhaps be willing to lose some money for this controversial device to be a success. I hope they continue with this and refine it.

  14. Seeing the video has just made me like the phone even less. That top bezel is ridiculous. It's like they were planning to have a second screen, but then changed their minds.
