Florida wildlife photographer Shellie Gilliam said the heron spent a half hour consuming the juvenile reptile after capturing it a few hundred yards away near Lake Apopka.

Florida is built different. There is no such thing as a food chain.
It looks like the bird held it head first in its beak to smother it, put it down to see if it was dead, then proceeded to swallow it. A snappy gator wouldn’t be a good thing to have in its gullet.
