I’ve been asked to make a video about washing engines for years and I’ve finally made one. This video gives you some tips to follow if you’re considering washing your engine.

**Please keep in mind that you could damage or cause your engine not to run if you’re not careful washing your engine. Proceed with caution!

  1. I detail cars and I always use a pair washer on the engine bay but I do not spray that close. I soak it with degreaser leave it dwell for about 3 to 4 minutes then spray it off from about a for to a foot and a half back then dry with a blower. Never had any problems and always have squeaky clean engine bays.

  2. I’ve had a number of corollas, 2 Mazda3’s, 1 Mazda2 and a new Mazda CX-5 and have washed all the engine bays numerous times with no issues, however it pays to use common sense and stay away from the intake etc

  3. I doubt it will cause an issue if you use a little bit of common sense. I've washed my engines for years with no issues. Engine bays are subject to a lot of water during rain driving.

Also, pretty sure a lot of guys put snorkels on their air boxes and literally submerge their engine bays. Not recommended but I doubt a simple spray wash will destroy anything.

  4. I washed my engine bay with a power washer but only target non critical areas. And make sure all caps, covers and hoses are secure.

  5. Don’t do this kids🤦🏼‍♂️

  6. Want to keep your car for a long time? Don't pressure wash your engine. Especially with the battery connected!. You're welcome ✌

  7. hey Eric, I noticed something, on index 4:29 the odometer reads "101325 miles" and then you said, "One week later…" the odometer reads "101356 miles" which would mean you drove it for 31 miles. Please explain the difference.

  8. So is it okay to wash ur engine or not? Ur video said is okay but every comment said otherwise. Really need to do something about rat that already make a home in my engine 🥲

  9. By experience just use a degreaser like if your swapping a engine without a harness . I messed up my Honda Civic transmission when I went to a car wash and pressure washed my engine and transmission I messed up some electrical components which caused my transmission to shift horrible . If you want a clean engine get a new car , or just fix common oil leaks for a engine to have a little dirt is normal.

  10. For me it is an annual thing. I use Amsoil Power Foam and the garden hose in the "sunshine" on a nearly cold engine only. The leaf blower goes all around before for the loose stuff and again after to dry the engine. A tire shine product sprayed onto a rag or carefully onto hoses and plastic then rubbed around is okay as long as it dries leaving no residue to attract dust. Stay away from plug wires of course. Don't ever spray the the exhaust studs with a lubricant. Plus, water that is forced by high pressure past the seal of an electrical connector will take much more than a week to do its damage.

  11. riight now your relay box connections are going to short due to corroded connections… takes some time… but it will happen

  12. I have to admit you got balls man, I’m afraid to do that, I’m too cheap to do that so I do it by using a paint brush some degreaser and silicone oil for rubber hoses
